In Memory of Asif Amin

(21 May 1955 - 2012)
There have been a few of us who were not seen in the mainstream gatherings of the course right from the outset, that is after the basic course at the School of Infantry and found many years later. But unfortunately a few who were subsequently found were too late to be within us as their days were counted. These included Asif Amin, Waheed Ahmed and Dr Sheikh Amer Mansoor.
Asif Amin in PMA

Asif Amin left the army as second lieutenant and then for decades he was out of sight. It was by a coincidence that Asif Amin was found decades later by Wasif Ali in Karachi somewhere in early 2011, some 34 years after he was last seen. He was found in a very critical health state and was confined to the wheel chair. He was invited to a Karachi Chapter get together on 20th April 2011, and that was the first time many of brothers of Karachi Chapter had the pleasure to meet him, while the rest of us saw his photos.
A memorable photo taken at Karachi get together – perhaps the last photo of our dear Asif Amin – seen here with chatting with Zahir ul Islam and Wasif.

Though everyone was happy to have him among them, every heart wept on his condition for he was once a very energetic, lively and smart young man. As for him, he was still in high spirits and despite his illness, he was all smiles as he had been always in PMA.
Despite his ailment, he was as spirited as he was when he was young and healthy and even saluted Zaheer as a gesture of pride and honour to find a course mates with three stars. Here he can be seen receiving a course shield specially sponsored by Wasif for the entire course.

Perhaps this was one of his very few last appearances as shortly thereafter in 2012 he boarded his heavenly flight to meet those of us who had left before him in the Heavens.

Remembering Asif, Jamil sent this note from Canada:
Love never dies: Asif Amin late was my roommate, a wonderful person and a great friend and course mate, While in PMA, he used to go to Mirpur AK on weekends to see his girlfriend. Always late, crossing barbed wire and asking platoon mates to do his funny haircut. He would also proudly show that colourful ,"Reshmee Romaal Tay uttay tairra naan likhyaa". His name embroidered on a handkerchief. Once got caught as BSUO Khawer reported him missing and was in serious trouble. As the luck would have it, he had to leave military as second lieutenant and joined Steel Mills as Adjutant Cadet College, Steel Mills.
May Almighty Allah rest his soul, and that of everyone of our course who have left us, in peace in Heavens, Aameen.

Please refer to our Reference Page to read about all those of us who have left us midway for their Heavenly abode.

I was amongst those who attended the get together in which Asif participated. Wheel chair bound he displayed a lot of happiness to be part of 55th once again. Soon afterwards we received news of his demise. Wasif and I along with families visited his family to offer our condolences. May Allah be happy with Asif Amin and reward him with a high place in Jannat. Aameen.
