Remembering Syed Agha Hussain

(22 August 1954 - 17 May 2000)
Syed Agha Hussain was one of the brilliant and promising officers of our course - a CSUO in PMA, he joined the corps of Signals and rose to distinction as he progressed in the army. A rather quiet Agha would talk sense whenever he chose to speak and brilliance and wisdom oozed out of every word that he minced. It was really a great loss when he bade us farewell much too early to bear the fruits of his hard work and left us all lamenting for the great loss.

Becoming Major
It was a surprise one day that Major Muqtada, Agha's son, contacted me, for he had joined Army Air Defence and found it easier to talk to me being from the same arm. He talked about his father at length, and was really very assuring that he was also following the footsteps of his father and a very professional life. He was then BM of a brigade that I once commanded. In fact many photos shared in this post were provided to me by him.
The last of Syed Agha Hussain
Unknown to many, for quite sometime, he was suffering from cancer and finally parted from us for his heavenly abode on 17 May 2000. May Allah bless the departed soul. Aameen.

In a mail to Chaudhary Tariq, Agha's son Muqtada Hussain recalls lasts days of his father:
Just before his operation in Nov 1999 I went to his office. He took all his belongings including my picture which he had pasted on table. Then he told me that this is probably my last day in office.  As a 2/Lt I had taken leave when he was in hospital. He always used to tell me that fight is on with the disease and he will be ok. During 6 months in hospital he was operated 6 times.  On 17 May 2000 at about 09:30 pm he was in my arms. I straightened his arms and legs. Told him to recite Kalma with me. There he breathed last... An unforgettable honest and sincere person and a caring father.
Sajjad Ali Khan remembers Agha and recalls:
Syed Agha Hussain was a simple straight forward, honest, sincere and hardworking friend and very a helpful brother who was my room mate in SIGs basic course. I was an Arts student but due to sincere efforts of Agha I could manage B+ in my basic course, the entire credit goes to him. We used to enjoy cycling together from MCS officers mess to MCS and back. Having Air force back gr, he was technically very sound and used to speak  very stylish English, for which he was known as "Kattha Angrez". Our friendship further grew when we joined units after the course. Once he lead SIGs contingent in 23rd March parade and I was especially invited to see him in the parade gr.  when his deadly disease was diagnosed, I was the first one he informed, then I was in ISI. I wrote a  DO to Gen Musharaff on behalf of his Mrs for his treatment abroad and delivered through Javed Sultan but the doctors did not sp due to his precarious condition. Many friends including myself advised him not to go for surgery but he had a strong belief and said every one that "wohi hoga jo ALLAH ko Manzoor ho"
He was not only popular in the course but people of the village also deeply loved him. This I could witness when we took his dead body to his village where all category of people were crying for him.
I shall ever miss him. I regularly visit his family and extend my help as and when required. His elder son is Lt Col in Air Def, 2nd is Med specialist in Australia, 3rd one is soft ware programmer again in Australia and the younger one is Telecomm engr. I wish them all a very happy life. May ALLAH bless the departed soul and grant him the highest place in Jannah. Ameen sum Ameen
PS: Agha's son has since been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel – a great achievement indeed. I sincerely wished Agha was alive today to see his son rising and prospering in the army. May Allah take his son to heights of glory which Agha really deserved had he lived.

Agha was a great companion, belonged to a humble and strongly religious family from a village near Kohat. I have the honour to meet his great father as well, a very impressive and spiritually imposing holy personality. Agha had first joined PAF in ranks and later got commission in Army. He was married and had children when he joined Army. Very and upright person and always avoided loose talk. He never waisted his energy on any pursuit except strict religious practices, religious reading and profession. Lived a simple and immaculate life and pursued neatness whether it be his dress or matters of body and soul. I met him once in Rawalpidi in 1987 once I was going to China for language course while he was here in connection with going to USA for a course. I saw him in a Suzuki Carry along with his small children, all very handsome with colored eyes. I joked with him that when he lands in America, Americans will hold back his children. No body could guess they were Asians. We naturally had aspecial bond as we belonged to the same religious beleifs. I leaned a lot from him. I was in Karachi when I talked to him while he was admitted in CMH Raqalpindi., after his promotion board result. Also visited his family after his death. I pray his children reach the zenith of glory in their lives as had been dreamed by brother Agha.
